FTCE/FELE H1N1 Policy

What is H1N1?

H1N1, also referred to as "swine flu," is a novel strain of influenza first detected in the United States in April 2009. The virus is spread person to person and shares many of the same symptoms as seasonal influenza. Symptoms of H1N1 include fever of 100 degrees or higher, chills, sore throat, headache, cough, body aches, fatigue, diarrhea, and/or vomiting.

Individuals with suspected or confirmed H1N1 are advised to remain at home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone. The fever should be gone without the use of fever-reducing medicines before resuming normal activities.

Further information about H1N1 can be found at the Florida Department of Health's Flu Web site or at the CDC's H1N1 Web site.

I am registered to test and think I might have H1N1. What should I do?

For the health and safety of other examinees and FTCE/FELE staff, examinees are urged to comply with the advice of their health-care professional and remain in home quarantine until cleared by a medical professional to return to work, school, or other normal activities.

Examinees experiencing fever and flu-like symptoms should NOT report for testing appointments.

Every effort will be made to reschedule examinees canceling testing appointments in advance due to suspected or confirmed H1N1 without additional fees or penalties.

For examinees with future computer-based testing registrations:

Computer-based testing registrations can be canceled online by the examinee for any reason up until the day before the test date with no additional fees or penalties. Instructions for canceling a computer-based testing appointment can be found at Changing or Canceling Your Registration Online.

To cancel a testing registration within the next 24 hours or for assistance using the online system to cancel a testing registration more than 24 hours away, contact Customer Service at (413) 256-2893.

For exams canceled less than 24 hours in advance, examinees must provide the following:

Documentation should be sent to the following address:

FTCE/FELE Customer Service
Evaluation Systems
Pearson
P.O. Box 660
Amherst, MA 01004-9018

Documentation can also be faxed to (413) 256-7080.

To be transferred to another testing date with no additional fees, documentation must be received in the FTCE/FELE program office within 30 calendar days (including weekends and holidays) after the scheduled testing date.

For examinees who have missed a testing appointment due to illness:

Examinees who have missed a testing appointment and did not cancel their testing appointment prior to their testing time may request a transfer to another testing date and time by following the procedures outlined in the Absentee/No Show Policy.

Refund of Testing Fees:

A refund of your testing fees will only be granted as outlined under "Refunds" in Changing Your Registration.
