Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE) 4.0 (084)

The current version of FELE (FELE 3.0) will retire on December 31, 2025. Examinees must take and pass ALL subtests by December 31, 2025, for certification purposes.

A new version of FELE (FELE 4.0) will be administered starting January 1, 2026, and examinees testing on or after this date must take and pass ALL subtests of FELE 4.0 for certification purposes.

The Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE) consists of four subtests:

  • Subtest 1: Foundational Policies & Practices of School Leadership
  • Subtest 2: Leadership Practices for Student Learning
  • Subtest 3: Leadership Development
  • Subtest 4: Leadership Communication

Each subtest is separately timed and any unused time on one subtest cannot be used toward the other subtest. Once you complete a subtest and proceed to the next subtest, you cannot return to any previous subtest.

Registration Information

You may register to take any combination of subtests in one test session. You will be required to pass all four subtests in order to pass the FELE.

Format Computer-based test (CBT);
Subtest 1: approximately 50 multiple-choice questions
Subtest 2: approximately 50 multiple-choice questions
Subtest 3: 1 written performance assessment
Subtest 4: 1 written performance assessment
Testing Time Subtest 1: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Subtest 2: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Subtest 3: 1 hour and 15 minutes
Subtest 4: 1 hour
Your total appointment time will be longer than the testing time shown above. See Your Test Appointment for more information.
If you take 3 or more subtests in a single session, you will receive a 15-minute break after the second subtest. Review the break policy Link opens pop-up window for more information.
Test Dates By appointment, year round. You will schedule your test during registration, based on available dates.

Passing Score Subtest 1: A scaled score of at least 200
Subtest 2: A scaled score of at least 200
Subtest 3: The passing score will be available by the end of January 2026*
Subtest 4: The passing score will be available by the end of January 2026*
Examinees must pass all four subtests to pass this test.

*Note: For the new FELE 4.0 effective January 1, 2026, the scoring rubric scale for Subtests 3 and 4 Written Performance Assessments will range from 1-4 score points, resulting in a total score ranging from 2-8 score points. The Department will link the initial operational data in January 2026 to the current FELE Written Performance Assessments passing outcomes to determine a transitional period passing score on the new rubric late in January 2026.

Score Reporting Official score reports for the multiple-choice-only subtests/sections are typically provided immediately after testing. However, on-site reporting may not be available for tests being redeveloped or revised. See On-site Reporting Link opens pop-up window for current information.
